I liked that ONLY those active tasks displayed on the 2nd monitor, since I do not want icons for tasks opened on primary monitor displaying on both monitors, Is there some way to only have the active tasks display on the secondary monitor.

I do not need the start search and task view displayed in taskbar of each monitor nor do i need the tasks opened in primary monitor displayed in taskbar of secondary monitor. I generally have many apps running and it is helpful to only have the icons for open tasks displaying on secondary monitor. This thread is locked. You can pin an icon in any of the following ways:. Live Taskbar Previews are actual thumbnail images of open windows. A preview appears when you hover over a taskbar button for a while. Previews support the Aero Peek feature : hover over a certain window’s preview to quickly reveal that window buried somewhere on the desktop.

Aero Peek on second monitor’s taskbar. Actual Multiple Monitors taskbars have the full support for Live Previews: they appear for single buttons, for group buttons multi-preview with a thumbnail for each window in the group and for tabbed web browsers multi-preview with a thumbnail for each browser’s tab. Multi-preview for several Internet Explorer tabs opened on a second monitor. Jump Lists give you a quick access to the recent files and common tasks of a certain application via its taskbar button either usual or pinned.

To call a Jump List, just right-click the required icon in the taskbar note that the old system window menu can be called using the Shift-RightClick combination. Jump List for a Windows Media Player button. Actual Multiple Monitors shows the Jump Lists on secondary taskbars as well.

Actual Multiple Monitors allows adding any toolbars onto second monitor’s taskbar, including the standard toolbars like Quick Launch, Address, Desktop, Windows Media Player , etc. Secondary taskbar’s context menu for managing toolbars. Secondary taskbars in Actual Multiple Monitors support such small but visually appealing features as colorized highlighting for a button under the mouse and progress bars on buttons’ background showing a progress for actual application’s task downloading a web page, writing a DVD, packing files, converting a video, etc.

Multi-monitor Taskbar can work in two different modes: individual default and mirror. Take the simple mouse cursor as an example. It’s easy to lose a tiny 16×16 pixel cursor on a bank of monitors, my current setup is x pixels that spans a roughly 60″ physical arc in front of my eyes. You can only focus on so much monitor real estate directly and at least a few times a day, the part I’m focusing on and the mouse cursor get out of sync.

Fortunately, Windows has a built-in tool for helping you find a wayward cursor with minimal fuss. It’s definitely not new to Windows 7 but it’s worth highlighting for its time-saving powers.

Open the mouse settings in the control panel and navigate to the “Pointer Options” tab. Down at the bottom—seen in the screenshot above—you’ll see a checkbox that says “Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key”, check it. Now when you press the CTRL key—but not when it’s part of a keyboard combo—a roughly pixel wide circle forms around the cursor and sweeps in towards it.

It’s a small tweak, but it’s oh-so-handy when you’re staring at one corner of your monitor array wondering where the cursor went and it’s all the way on the other side of your farthest monitor. If you weren’t a big fan of keyboard shortcuts before, you’re going to rapidly become one.

Dragging the cursor from one end of your monitor array all the way to the other end just to execute a command that would take two key strokes will get real old, real fast. These handy shortcuts from Windows 7 work for single monitors, too, but they make working with multiple monitors and lots of open windows easier, and have a few special tricks for multi-monitor users:.

While Windows does a fantastic job with initial monitor setup and basics like shortcuts, you’ll find no shortage of what are nothing short of glaring oversights especially if you’re still using Windows 7, which doesn’t have as many multi-monitor features as Windows 8.

You can address the shortcomings of Windows’ multi-monitor handling one of two ways. You can install a dozen odd programs, some free and some not, that add in little tweaks incrementally—a taskbar extension here, a move-window button there, etc. The two big players are UltraMon and DisplayFusion.

UltraMon is older, but DisplayFusion was the first to radically update for Windows 7 and updates more frequently. Again, both UltraMon and DisplayFusion are solid products and our focus on DisplayFusion over UltraMon is based entirely on a most-features-per-dollar-spent assessment.

The free trials offered by both are worth your while if you really want to put their premium features head to head.
